The rural mountain communities of Clearwater, Vavenby and Birch Island, and the surrounding area of Wells Gray Country offer a truly unique combination of fabulous natural scenery, an excellent range of local resources, and ready accessibility from major centres. We’re in the heart of BC’s interior, less than 2 hours’ drive north of Kamloops, and just 5 hours from Vancouver, or 7 from Edmonton or Calgary.
Our greatest natural asset is the wilderness of Wells Gray Provincial Park. This major preserve of over 5,000km² includes a stunning variety of terrain, from deep valleys to high mountains, and from brooding old-growth forests to raging whitewater rivers.
The Park is particularly well-endowed with spectacular waterfalls and river-rapids, including Helmcken Falls - some 3 times the height of Niagara. Other notable features include impressive alpine peaks, lava-beds, and volcanic cones and craters. Several large glacial lakes provide access deep into the wild interior of the park.
The area’s principal industries of forestry and adventure-tourism ensure that a wide range of logistical support is readily obtainable: a network of forest roads stretches far into the back-country, and specialist options available include helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft, horses, canoes, rafts, motor-boats, ATVs, dog-sleds, snow-cats and snowmobiles.
Being the main service-centre for the mid North Thompson Valley, the town offers a full set of services and facilities, including hotels and other accommodations, high-speed internet and cell-phone service, and a hospital.
There is a large pool of skilled tradespeople and other labour, who are amenable, flexible and friendly. Clearwater is the largest town in the North Thompson Valley and the gateway to Wells Gray Park. You can find more information on this friendly town from the District of Clearwater and the Clearwater Chamber of Commerce.
We look forward to welcoming your business!
