Tourism and Marketing Manager for Tourism Wells Gray

Tourism Wells Gray is a Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) responsible for developing and promoting tourism within the District of Clearwater and Wells Gray Country (which includes Wells Gray Provincial Park).
Perfectly placed on the Yellowhead Highway north of Kamloops BC, with Wells Gray Provincial Park as the lead attraction, the area is well known for a wide array of summer and winter tourism activities including canoeing, rafting, horseback riding, hiking, camping, mountain biking, fishing, and sightseeing.
Tourism Wells Gray is currently seeking a full-time Tourism & Marketing Manager who will work with our Board, tourism operators, the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association, local governments, and the tourism industry as a whole to enhance the area's tourism industry.

JOB TITLE: Tourism and Marketing Manager Position
NATURE AND SCOPE OF WORK:

The Tourism and Marketing Manager is responsible for planning and conducting Tourism Wells Gray's initiatives. The Manager reports directly to the Board of Directors of Tourism Wells Gray.
The Tourism and Marketing Manager takes the lead role in working with the Board of Tourism Wells Gray, tourism operators, and the broader tourism industry and lead organizations to identify and promote tourism product development and marketing opportunities within Wells Gray Country and the District of Clearwater. The Manager is guided by the Tourism Strategic Plan goals and objectives, and is responsible for the efficient operation and administration of the association.
This position requires a broad general knowledge of tourism and government coupled with an ability to handle a variety of projects and tasks that must be completed within time deadlines. The Manager must have a proven ability to work with tourism operators and executives, government officials, community stakeholders, and the public.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • • Managing tourism product development, marketing activities, and vendor relationships
  • • Packaging local tourism products
  • • Developing and managing tourism advertising and collateral
  • • Organizing and attending trade shows, Familiarization Tours, wholesale contacts, etc.
  • • Communiation/liaison with area stakeholders and other tourism organizations
  • • Development and application of the Wells Gray brand
  • • Developing and maintaining media relations, including developing a media relations plan
  • • Building awareness of the value of tourism in the community
  • • Event awareness planning and management
  • • Developing and managing tourism strategic plans, business plans, and annual work plans
  • • Writing reports including monthly and quarterly reporting of activities and deliverables, and an Annual Report
  • • Developing and managing fiscal budgets for:
  • Tourism Wells Gray Association
  • Additional Hotel Room Tax revenue, which requires separate accountingtourism projects and programs
  • • Maintaining and inputting information onto the Tourism Wells Gray website, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
  • • Contract management of service providers (designers, writers, photographers, etc.)
  • • Preparing an annual budget and quarterly financial reports
  • • Supervision of staff
  • • Other duties as required
Qualifications:
  • • Post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree in Tourism, Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, or similar
  • • Comprehensive knowledge of the tourism industry
  • • Minimum of three years related experience
Skills/Abilities:
  • • Excellent communication, computer and interpersonal skills are required
  • • Work independently, within a team framework in a variety of social settings
  • • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships and lead complex projects
  • • Understand government funding mechanisms that assist community development
  • • Possess working knowledge and experience with computer publishing and presentation software programs to produce publishable reports and documents in hard copy and PowerPoint type formats
  • • Proven success in the development and execution of tourism product development and marketing plans
  • • In-depth knowledge of communication principles and media, including Social Media
  • • Experience with website development
  • • Knowledge of e-marketing trends
  • • Excellent knowledge and use of business and reporting software (MS Office)
  • • Comprehensive knowledge of print/publishing tools
  • • The ability to supervise and train assigned staff/volunteers
  • • The ability to coordinate and organize meetings and special events
  • • Knowledge of public events sponsorship arrangements and procedures
  • • Experience with grant applications and public funding
  • • Experience with developing budgets and fiscal management and reporting
  • • Proven self organization and management skills

Other Requirements:
  • • Must hold and maintain a valid BC Driver’s License
  • • Must possess a vehicle
  • • Required to attend meetings and be available outside ordinary business hours of work, including evenings and weekends
  • • Occasional business travel will be required
