Fishing in Wells Gray Country
The large number of lakes and rivers in Wells Gray Country are almost all home to trout. There are about 50 lakes within 1 hour of Clearwater alone. With a few superb rivers like the Mahood and the Clearwater added into the mix, Wells Gray Country is truly a world-class fishing destination. Guides are available to suggest good beats for visitors and to help with refining their technique. Several resorts, some remote, have been developed to provide bases for those who want to spend all their time fishing. Some of these boast celebrity names among their guest-lists. In August the salmon begin to run in the North Thompson, Clearwater, Raft and Mad Rivers, and the anglers are out in force to greet them. You will need a BC fishing-license, and should read the regulations governing restrictions on where and when you are allowed to fish, on catch-and-release, and on quotas for different species.
