What to do during the Wells Gray Park closure

On July 9, 2017 Wells Gray Provincial Park was temporarily closed until further notice as a precautionary measure by the BC Wildfire Service.

The following highlights the activities and adventures visitors can still enjoy.

Accommodation and Campgrounds
All private accommodations and campgrounds in Clearwater and Wells Gray Country remain open.

Whitewater Rafting, River Float Trips, & Tandem Raft trips
All three of our wonderful rafting companies are open and providing river trips on the North Thompson River.

Canoe and Kayak
Visitors can canoe and kayak on Dutch Lake in Clearwater, BC. (Rentals can be secured from the rafting companies and also Jasper Way Inn)
Liquid Lifestyles is offering 1/2 day Kayak lessons.

Stand-up Paddle Board (SUP)
Visitors can try the latest in paddling on Dutch Lake. Liquid Lifestyles and Jasper Way Inn have boards for rent.

Liquid Lifestyles is also offering 1/2 day Stand-up Paddle Board lessons.

Visit the Candle Creek Trail system in Clearwater. The multi-use trails wind through old growth forests and offer sweeping views of the North Thompson Valley. See the Wells Gray Outdoors Club for more information.

Horseback Riding
Western Riding (Battle Mountain Equine) has trips daily on private land adjecent to Wells Gray Park for guests to enjoy.

Vavenby Trail Rides is still hosting trail rides on their ranch in Vavenby, close to Clearwater BC.

Fishing on Lakes
Dutch Lake is open to the public for fishing.
Guests can visit the Clearwater Trout Hatchery to learn how it operates and also borrow fishing rods.

Star Lake Resort- for a small fee guests can spend the day at Star Lake enjoying the lake and fishing.

Drift Boat Fly Fishing- Guests can spend a 1/2 day or full day fly fishing on the Clearwater River.

Tandem Paragliding
Xsky Paragliding is still offering these thrilling and scenic trips from their base in Birch Island BC.

Live music every Thursday Night!
Join the North Thompson Valley Music Guild for free music concerts outdoors from 7-9pm, July & August.
Summer Stage as it is called takes place at the Dutch Lake Community Centre Park in Clearwater, BC. Bring a chair or blanket. Learn about other events here.

Courses on Survival and Traditional Skills
Wolfwood Guest Ranch is offering courses on traditional skills like bushcraft, wild edibles and medicinal plants, etc. \

Enjoy the beach and the cool water of scenic Dutch Lake and Clearwater.

Splash Park

Do the kids need to blow off some steam and cool down? Try the free, newly built splash park located behind the Buy-Low foods shopping complex. There is a park and picnic tables as well.

Golf & Disc Golf
Guests can spend the day golfing at the Lacarya Golf and RV Park and the Wells Gray Golf Resort and RV Park.
The Wells Gray Golf Resort also features a Disc Golf Course.

Mountain Biking
Guests can visit the Candle Creek Mountain bike trails in Clearwater which have been developed and maintained by the Wells Gray Outdoors Club.

Farmers Market
Every Saturday on the Interior Whitewater Expeditions lawn from 9am-12pm enjoy local produce, food and crafts as well as the Elks Breakfast. See here for more events.
